Indian national team skipper will not travel to Singapore as he didn’t get a green signal from the Singaporean Consulate…
Churchill Brothers SC have asked the Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) aid after Sunil Chhetri and Balal Arezou were not granted visa for their trip to Singapore for an AFC Cup group E tie against Warriors on Wednesday.
The Goan side left for Singapore on Sunday without their two strikers. "We had applied a couple of days ago but the online applications of Chhetri and Balal has been rejected,” a Churchill official told The Times of India.
Churchill Alemao, the club patron, too has been denied visa by the Singapore Consulate in Mumbai.
“On Friday the club got a letter from Singapore Consulate in Mumbai that Chhetri, Arezou and Alemao will not be granted visas to travel to Singapore. The consulate gave no reason for the rejection. The players and Alemao will re-apply again,” a Churchill official was quoted saying.
Churchill have four points from three matches and do have a realistic chance of making it through to the next stage.
