There was not much fanfare when Khalid Hamdaoui signed for Woodlands Wellington at the start of the year but his immaculate performances in the early stages of the Great Eastern Yeo’s S.League soon elevated him above the other players in the league, by both the media and fans alike.
His creativity and daunting runs forward from deep in his own half always kept the fans at the edge of their seats and opponent on their toes.
With four goals and a handful of assist thus far, it came as no surprise when the former Netherlands U21 international was named Singa-Goal.com Singapore player of the month for March.
Hamdaoui dedicated the award to his peers and said that although he did not expect it, his other half was happy for him.
“Did I expect this? No, But my wife she said yes, I should win it!” said Hamdaoui to Goal.com.
“We in Holland always have this ‘we can do and must do better’ mentality. That was how I grew up, with that mindset.
“Like I used to say every time, it is a team sports. But recognition like this is always nice. I am very happy and this is for the whole team.”
Hamdaoui also expressed gratitude to those that made this award possible and revealed that Goal.com Singapore is a one-stop football website for those that are back in his native country who are keen to follow up news on his development in the S.League.
“We had a very good first month in the S.League and I would like to thank the sponsor Singa and Goal.com Singapore for selecting me as the player of the month,” said the midfielder
“Goal.com’s coverage of the league is very good and I am happy with that. I have a lot of friends and family in Europe who read it often.”
“I am also proud that they are able to follow the news and some of them knew it even before me through the website!”
