Although Brunei DPMM lifted the League Cup in 2012, the S.League title eluded them as they ended the season as runners-up, four points behind champions Tampines Rovers.
Keen to improve on that for the upcoming 2013 campaign, the club resumed training a few weeks after the previous season ended with the local players, in addition to holding try-out sessions for foreigners.
Speaking to Goal.com Singapore, club captain Rosmin Kamis had nothing negative to say about the early start to the new season and added that he is pleased with the new foreign players' ability to adapt to their new surroundings.
“We had a good preparation for the new season as we started it as soon as the last league season ended," he said.
"We proceeded with training as per normal and also took part in an invitational tournament in Aceh in December.
“Thankfully we had the tournament in Aceh, as we were able to play with the new foreign players and suit ourselves to each other's playing style."
DPMM has retained Brazilian defender Tales dos Santos while also signing Portuguese striker Joao Moreira and Guadeloupean midfielder Stephane Auvray, with the latter featuring in Aceh.
The Sultanate outfit has also secured the services of former AEK Athens midfielder Dino Drpic and finalized the signing of former Croatia international Ivan Bosnjak.
While Rosmin is hopeful that the club is able to improve on their standings this season, the 31-year-old midfielder is cautious of the other teams, who have also beefed up their squads
“We will try to improve on our achievement of the previous season, but it will not be easy as the other teams have also done their own homework and signed quality players," he explained.
"So our target is to take each game at a time and hopefully, results will go our way.”
