Football Association of Singapore (FAS) president Zainudin Nordin has insisted all candidates will be considered for the Singapore head coach position regardless of their nationality, and the best possible candidate for the job will be selected.

Singapore will be heading into their 2015 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers against Jordan on February 6 in Amman with V. Sundramoorthy as interim coach, as the FAS has yet to appoint a successor to the longest-serving national coach, Serbian Radojko ‘Raddy’ Avramovic.

While it has been a month since Raddy officially stepped down from his post, which he had held for nine years since 2003, Zainudin stressed that the association will not be rushing into making any decision soon due to the complexity of the process.

“What we are doing now is shortlisting the candidates and ensuring that they are of a certain calibre and once we have done that, we will make sure that we meet them," Zainudin told Goal.com Singapore after the launch of the limited edition Nike four-star national team jersey.

“As you know, they (the applicants) are not from Singapore alone and there are applications from all over the world. Our local coaches are also amongst them and honestly, the whole process will take some time.”

While the process of selecting the next national coach is still ongoing, Zainudin has stressed that nationality is not an issue for FAS when the time comes for them to make a final decision, even though the selection process is going smoothly with the assistance of their partners.

“We will continue to ensure that the selection process will be robust and done in a proper manner and [we are] working with an international agency (Sports Recruitment International), which is very experienced and know what they are doing," he explained.

“So I do not want to pre-empt and jump the gun. Let us do this, complete this properly, and when we do it, we will make a proper announcement.

“One thing is for sure: when it’s come to the calibre of the coaches, we will look at whatever they have done - whether it is current and the past, we will look at everything.”

Coach Sundram has named a 23 men squad for the trip to the Middle East, calling upon old guards such as Ismail Yunos and Noh Rahman, while dropping regulars like Shi Jiayi and Qiu Li.
