thumbnail Hello,

The Red Devils contingent is set to be led by Academy Manager and former United striker Brian McClair and will likely feature Chilean sensation Angelo Henriquez.

Manchester United have released their provisional under-19 squad for the inaugural NexLions Cup, to be held on December 14 and 16.

Arguably the biggest name fans might be able to catch in action is Chilean striker Angelo Henriquez, who is the youngest member of the first-team squad. Barring any last-minute injury, he is expected to make the final squad.

Renowned for his lethal finishing in front of goal, he was hailed by FourFourTwo magazine as one of the five best young players in the world following his performances at the 2011 South American U-17 championship.

At just 17, Henriquez broke into the Universidad de Chile first-team and netted 11 times in 18 games during his maiden campaign. At international level, he boasts an astounding record with 18 goals in 21 games for Chile’s U15, U17, U20 and U23 teams.

Having gone to Manchester for a trial as a 15-year-old, the club subsequently kept a close eye on him in the intervening years and eventually signed him in the summer of 2012.

Henriquez has featured in the Under-21 side, and has been described by manager Sir Alex Ferguson as a "good finisher" and someone who "has made a tremendous impact on the game in his short career so far".

Other names to look out for include 18-year-old Jack Barmby, son of former England midfielder Nick Barmby, England youth international James Wilson, as well as starlets Mats Daehli and Andreas Pereira.

The Red Devils will be led by former striker Brian McClair, currently the Academy Manager, as well as coach Warren Joyce, the current U21 manager.

“We are looking forward to the NexLions Cup. I think it will be a good test for the boys and a great experience.  There will be some strong competition with Liverpool and Sporting Lisbon fielding teams but I know our lads will want to return with the trophy.” Joyce commented.

Mr Abdur Raheem, Executive Director of Kirkwall Sports Pte Ltd, said: “Manchester United has always been a well-supported club in Singapore and their academy has produced some of the world’s best footballers over the years. I’m sure Singapore football fans will be treated to two nights of spectacular football and will enjoy seeing some of the world’s brightest young talents in this tournament.”

The NexLions Cup is a joint initiative between the Football Association of Singapore [FAS] and Kirkwall, who are exclusive partners of Manchester United Soccer Schools and Sporting Lisbon Academy in South East Asia.
