The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) have quashed reports of an alleged search for a Spanish coach.

Media reports originating from Malaysia had stated that the FAS had formally approached Fifa for assistance in searching for a Spanish coach to replace the soon-to-depart Lions coach Raddy Avramovic.

An FAS Spokesperson stated: “There is no truth to that report and we will make no further comment on the issue or any other speculative report."

"We are now focused on the upcoming AFF Suzuki Cup where our target is to reach the final. As indicated earlier, any other issues, including contractual renewals, will be discussed and decided only after the competition."

Long-serving Singapore coach Avramovic is into the final year of his contract and earlier media reports had stated that the Serbian had indicated a desire to leave the post he has held since 2004. However, no official confirmation has been issued either.

Avramovic will be leading Singapore at the AFF Suzuki Cup held in Kuala Lumpur. Singapore open their campaign against holders Malaysia on Sunday November 25 at Bukit Jalil Stadium.
