Home United FC (HUFC) on Thursday morning, via social media, announced that they have retained just four players for the upcoming campaign.
“Firdaus Idros, Nor Azli Yusoff, Indra Sahdan and Masrezwan Masturi are the only players retained for 2013 as HUFC's major revamp begins!” reads the tweet from Home United's official twitter account.
The news came as no surprise as coach Lee Lim Saeng had announced after their last league game against Courts Young Lions, that he wants to build a new team for the new season.
“Now that the season is over, I want to make a new team, a new Home United for next year," said Lee after the match.
The former South Korean international also emphasised the importance of cohesiveness, stressing: “You may have noted that at the start of last season, Home played together as a team. This is my target for next season.”
With only four players left in the roster, Goal.com Singapore understands that the Protectors' new squad is taking its shape with the return of several former players.
Among those speculated to be returning to the Bishan based club include the like of former LionsXII duo Sevki Sha'ban and Juma'at Jantan and Gombak United player Ismail Yunos.
Former Hougang United winger, Jordan Webb, is also linked to the 2011 Singapore Cup champions. According to sources, the Canadian born player bid farewell to the Cheetahs faithful and revealed his next destination to them, after their last game of the season.
Also rumoured to be jumping onto the Protectors bandwagon are former Singapore Armed Forces duo, Aliff Shafaein and Shahril Jantan, replacing the outgoing Shi Jiayi and Lionel Lewis respectively.
Both coach Lee Lim Saeng and Shahril Jantan could not be reached for comment.
