Legendary players like Robbie Fowler, Steve McManaman, Patrik Berger, Ronny Johnsen, Frank Leboeuf and Pierre Van Hooijdonk will be in town next month for the competition.
The event will take place on Sunday, 14th October at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Four ‘Legends’ teams will be involved, with Manchester United, Liverpool, and an EPL All-Star side going head-to-head with a Singapore All-Star selection in a tournament which the organisers are expecting fans to flock to.
The Singapore All-Stars will comprise members from the 1994 Malaysia Cup winning squad, including the likes of Bashir Khan, Rafi Ali, Malek Awab, Lim Tong Hai, Jang Jung, Steven Tan, Fandi Ahmad, V. Sundramoothy and Nazri Nasir.
Led by Abbas Saad, the Singapore selection will be looking to put up a good fight.
“As soon I heard Masters Football was coming to Singapore I wanted to get involved, so I took the lead in organising the Singapore team,” commented Abbas.
“Everyone in the squad is looking forward to the tournament and to be honest, it wasn’t hard getting the team together even after 17 years. All the team is keen to play against guys they admired, who were playing at the top of their game when we were. I’m hoping we can spark up a bit of magic from the early 90’s again; we’ll definitely need it, looking at some of the names in the other Masters squads. Saying that, I’m sure myself, Fandi (Ahmad) and Sundram (Sundramoorthy) can put a few goals away ourselves,” he continued.
Aside from the tournament, fans will be able to catch selected EPL and local legends at a Meet-and-Greet session at CHIJMES on Thursday, 27th September at 7:30pm.
