Singapore National Games football competition comes to an end

The inaugural SNG football competition comes to an end and brings you a recap of the winners

The football category in the inaugural Singapore National Games came to an end on Saturday night as Pioneer CSC and Yew Tee CSC took to the field at Jalan Besar stadium.

It was a stroll in the park for Yew Tee CSC as they put four past their opponent to clinch gold for the Choa Chu Kang cluster team.

The hero for the night was former national and SAFFC and Balestier Central (now known as Balestier Khalsa) footballer Ali Imran Lomri who scored a hat trick for his team.

A delighted Ali could not hold back his joy as he told : “I feel great and ‘super’ great indeed. I had won titles with SAFFC in the S.League before and then with Singapore Recreation Club in the National Football League for two years in a row and now this, the Singapore National Games. How great can that be?"

Over in the Plate final, Tampines East CSC won 3-2 on penalty after the score was one a piece at the end of regulation time.

Present at the Jalan Besar stadium was Alex Yam Ziming, Member of Parliament for Choa Chu Kang GRC who spoke on the positivity of the inaugural Singapore National Games: “I do think this is a great experience for them to have this kind of exposure in a tournament like this. I hope that there will be more opportunities for them to participate in games and competitions in future.”

A day earlier saw the finals for the Women’s and Men’s Master finals taking place at Yio Chu Kang Sports Hall.

Focus was on Tampines West (Women’s) team as they boasted of national players such as Siti Azlinah Aziz and former Republic Polytechnic player Nor Hidayah. Unfortunately they succumbed to a determined Bukit Batok East CSC by a single goal.

The Men’s Master category was won by Yio Chu Kang CSC who cruised past Toa Payoh Central by six goals to clinch gold medal for Ang Mo Kio cluster.

Representing Yio Chu Kang CSC was former national and Jurong FC player, Tamil Maran, who said: “It’s a great achievement for our team as it is the inaugural SNG and it is the first time we are participating in this tournament. We normally play on a bigger field and this is the first time we are playing on a futsal court with five a side. We did great! Well done guys, we’ve achieved it!”
