The final match of the EPL season between City and QPR was affected by broadcast issues and blackouts, frustrating football fans
Issues with the satellite feed halted transmission several times over the course of the match which City won 3-2 with two goals in stoppage time. There were also complains over the image quality of the broadcast.
Fans missed significant portions of the game, but were fortunately able to catch the dramatic finale which included two goals from Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero, that clinched the Premier League title.
Irate fans took to social media to vent their frustrations.
Nicholas Charles wrote on a Singtel Mio Facebook page: “I hope you lose the rights to the BPL!! let STARHUB take over! thank god i did not subscribe to euro2012 on mio tv. I rather pay more to your competitors starhub to watch the matches!
Gareth David Moysey added: “Hope your failure as a Cable TV provider during this crucial Premier League Finale makes it to the national papers so everyone will stay away from MIO.”
However, the problems with the satellite feed for the match were not only experienced by viewers in Singapore.
The entire last ten minutes of the game, including the dramatic finale, was missed by almost half of Spain, as broadcaster Canal Plus suffered a blackout in transmission. Subscribers to Goal TV were able to view the match uninterrupted.
Singtel Mio are the sole owners of the rights to broadcast English Premier League matches in Singapore, and will be carrying the Euro 2012 competition together with competitor Starhub next month.
