Goal Singapore Roundtable Preview: Perak FA vs LionsXII

Can Fandi Ahmad's men get a second straight win when they travel to the Malaysia Super League strugglers? More importantly, can any of our predictors get the score correct?
You could sense the relief from fans, players and coaches after that 2-1 win over PKNS FC. A first win after three attempts has finally given renewed hope and vigour to the team. But the big question now is, can they maintain their good form and get another three points? The problem with the team this season has been their inconsistencies in getting results, so if they can get a win against bottom dwellers Perak, I'm sure we can kick off an unbeaten run to climb up the table. But worrying signs are still there. The manner they conceded the goal against PKNS was again through sloppy defensive play. They need to cut out such fatal mistakes at the back entirely. Amri was tormenting the PKNS defence on Saturday, so I hope he gets to build on his tally here. I'd say an unthinkable result other than all three points!
Prediction: 1-3. Time for the LionsXII to establish some momentum to climb up the MSL table.

Was that win over PKNS FC on Saturday a turning point for the LionsXII? I hope so, as it was clearly a much better performance than in their previous two losses. There was intelligent use of the ball, coupled with their determination and fighting spirit. I thought Khairul Amri was outstanding upfront on his own and he is really someone who can produce something out of nothing. Zulfahmi Arifin was terrific as well and Fandi will hope the midfielder can reproduce such displays on a consistent basis. Raihan Rahman's performance was a surprise, in a good way, while Faris Ramli was effervescent. The morale in the camp should be good and I think with Perak struggling for goals, the LionsXII have to bring all three points back from Ipoh.
Prediction: 0-2. I have an inkling that the LionsXII will be fired up to win this.

There'll be no better time to string a winning run together than now. LionsXII will go up against second-from-bottom Perak FA before returning to Singapore face bottom side T-Team this weekend. The win on Saturday would have quelled the nerves and resolved the confidence issues that has been clearly plaguing the side in recent games. But the manner in which the one goal was conceded was still cause for concern that LionsXII have a problem shoring up the defence. Perak's position should not be taken for granted. Ipoh Stadium is one of the most intimidating places to visit and the home side have only tasted defeat once there this season. LionsXII meanwhile failed to win both times they played there last season. While it's tempting to think Fandi Ahmad's boys could pull off another win, it might be too much of a stretch with the team clearly in midst of re-shaping as seen by the absence of Isa Halim on Saturday and the debut handed to Raihan Rahman.
Prediction: 1-1. A modest draw would be a good result still
