Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin believes that an increase in sponsors for the M-League can help the development of Malaysian football
Youth and Sports Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin said that suggestions on increasing the prize for the 2014 M-League winners will depend on sponsorship.
Khairy said that the ministry understands the financial problems that some of the teams are going through as he had experience handling MyTeam for three years.
According to Sinar Harian, Khairy said: "During that time, the yearly budget was only around MYR3-4 million and now the budget is getting bigger especially with the teams’ desire to get international players.
"It is up to the FAM.
"If they can get a lot of sponsors, they can increase the winnings and I believe it can make the M-League more exciting."
Khairy is also hoping that the states' associations can allocate more money for football development and not just use it to pay players’ salary.
"When I was the [Football Association of Malaysia's] Vice-president, I found that most of the states use their budget to manage their senior football team, and did not spend it to the states’ football development," he added.
Khairy Jamaluddin also suggested that the management allocate players’ wages according to the performance shown on the pitch.
