The Football Association of Malaysia’s (FAM) will hold a meeting on July 10 to discuss its policies, and they are expected to finalise amendments of Article 88
The controversial Article 88 Statute has increasingly become a hot issue amongst the football community in Malaysia.
Football Association of Malaysia’s (FAM) Secretary-General Datuk Azzuddin Ahmad said that the meeting will be chaired by FAM Vice President Datuk Afandi Hamzah, and they will discuss policies and regulations of the governing body for football.
Speaking to Bernama, Azzuddin said: "If the exco members approve the draft during the meeting, it will be tabled in the FAM Congress on August 1, and later decided by the FAM Executive Council - since it involves the constitution."
Article 88 forbids officials, coaches and players from talking to the press pertaining to football administration and policies of the FAM.
"Coaches are allowed to give their comments of the performance of their own teams, but cannot touch on policy matters.
"If they wish to comment on policies or administration, they must do it through the right channels," Azzuddin added.
Many influential people in Malaysian football such as the President of the Johor FA, Tunku Ismail; Kelantan FA President, Tan Sri Annuar Musa; and also Perlis FA President, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, have all been suspended and fined for violating Article 88.
