Sundram dissatisfied despite win

The LionsXII coach was happy with the win but claimed his side could do better

Despite extending their lead at the top of the Malaysian Super League table after their 2-1 victory over Perak FA at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Saturday night, coach V. Sundramoorthy felt that there were areas where his team could have done better.

"We wanted to extend the lead and the boys have done their best," he said. "Perak is a good team but I think we should have taken it easier compared to the previous games.

"Firstly, regarding [the] late goal in the game, we need to watch the video again to see what went wrong and try to work on it.

"I think we can do better. We need to keep working and push them in training. Like I said, we need to stay focused and can’t give away soft goals."

Captain Shahril Ishak scored his third goal in two games, which brought his tally to four in the league this season.

But those goals came after an ongoing goal-drought, where his his first goal of the season came only on the opening day of the league against ATM FA.

"In a season there will be ups and downs, and there will be times when you will not play your best but still get the points," Sundram pointed out.

"Definitely, we can try to push all the way till the wire [for the title].

"Players do have dips in form but as the season goes on, their form is coming back and I think it is the right time that he [Shahril] is peaking again, scoring the goals and collecting the three points for us."

The LionsXII will next travel to Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi to take on Negeri Sembilan, while Perak will host Selangor PKNS on April 12 in Ipoh.
