The Kelantan goalkeeper insisted that his teammates need to form an understanding as soon as possible before they face Iraq and Qatar in the next one week
Malaysia's squad was hit by a severe injury crisis recently, ruling most of their key players out of the tie. Seasoned names like Safee Sali, Norshahrul Idlan Talaha, Wan Zack Wan Haikal and S. Kunanlan all picked up an injury and were deemed unavailable for the upcoming games.
Datuk K. Rajagopal moved quickly to draft in replacements, who are mostly new faces. Pahang's red hot striker Fauzi Roslan is one of the new names, while Kelantan's Norfarhan Mohamad has been recalled for the first time in six years.
Now, Khairul Fahmi believes that it will be absolutely vital for them to forge an understanding as soon as possible.
"We all know that quite a number of players were ruled out with injuries and several new faces have been called up to replace them. Within this short period of time, we need to find a rhythm using the players we have," he told Kosmo.
"We need to be careful with our next two opponents because they will try to use their aerial advantage to overpower us. Therefore, we have to defend more aggresively and stop them from delivering balls into the boxes."
Nonetheless, Khairul Fahmi's position in the starting 11 is still unsure due to the impressive form of Farizal Marlias during the AFF Suzuki Cup as well as for Perak in the Malaysian Super League.
