FAM has revealed why Malaysia captain Safiq Rahim was not selected in Rajagopal's squad, denying media claims that he was droppedThe Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) today released a statement revealing the reason why national captain Safiq Rahim was not picked for the Asian Cup Qualification in Qater next month.
According to FAM, Safiq was not picked by Rajagopal because of an Asian Football Confederation (AFC) ruling. This is because Safiq still has a one game suspension due to the red card he picked up during a World Cup Qualification match against Singapore at Jalan Besar Stadium on the 23rd of July 2011.
Safiq's ommission from the national squad has caused many rumours on why he was dropped, with many pointing to his unimpressive performances with new club Johor Darul Takzim FC so far this season.
However, the FAM was quick to deny that former Selangor player was dropped, instead citing technical reasons for his exclusion.
Rajagopal has picked 26 players to play in Asian Cup Qualifications next month, including the in-form strikers Fauzi Roslan from Pahang and Nor Farhan from Kelantan.
