Perak and T-Team contested a largely scrappy affair in Lumut but the home side managed to edge out as 1-0 victors, after a late own goal from Mazlizam Mohamad gave them all three points. The Seladangs struggled to impress throughout the game, as they lacked a focal point upfront but nonetheless, Azraai Khor Abdullah was more than satisfied with the win.
"I'm really grateful for the win and I think my boys somehow deserved it. I have to admit, we did not play at a level we should be playing, but to kick start the season with three points is more than enough for me," he told reporters after the game.
"We lacked tempo in midfield, I have to admit. But T-Team are a good team as well, so you've got to give them credit as well."
While T-Team started with a relatively full-strength team, with the exception of inspirational defender Marzuki Yusof, Perak were missing several big name players in their line-up. S. Chanturu, V. Thirumurugan, skipper Shahrulnizam and forward Karim Rouani were all nursing injuries and could not make it for this one.
"Again I say, we did not play very well but this was mainly due to the injuries suffered by our key players. Shahrulnizam is out with an ankle injury, Chanturu as well.
"We are definitely a better team with all this players. So with three points in the bag, lets hope we can build on from this and perform better in the upcoming matches."
Perak will next face star studded side Johor Darul Takzim at the Larkin Stadium this Friday.
