Afiq Azmi relishing prospect of featuring for Red Giants

The tall striker impressed with Kelantan during the Malaysia Cup campaign last season, but opted to join Selangor for next season and is very excited to get started with them
Selangor FA forward Afiq Azmi is relishing the prospect of donning the Selangor jersey for the upcoming Malaysia Super League season. The tall striker was part of the Kuala Lumpur side that struggled throughout last season, before  making the move to Kelantan for the Malaysia Cup.

With the Red Warriors, Afiq impressed with his physical presence upfront, but the 1.85 metre forward chose to join Selangor for the new season and is absolutely satisfied with the decision to do so.

"Choosing to play for Selangor is certainly the best decision for me as it allows me to further develop my career," he told Utusan Malaysia.

"We all know what a good side Selangor are. I'm not going to deny that I've always had the dream of playing for them one day and I will strive to make this opportunity a memorable one.

With the likes of Francis Forkey Doe and Amri Yahyah all competing for the forward position, Afiq knows it will be tough. Especially when you consider the fact that Selangor have often played in a 4-4-1-1 or 4-5-1 position, leaving only one forward upfront.

"I want to feel the pressure of playing with all the quality players here. You have Ramzul Zahini, Amri Yahya, Francis Forkey Doe and the competition will be massive.

"However I would like to think that the opportunity is equal for everyone and that it will all depend on how we perform in training.

The former Perlis President Squad player netted six goals in the Super League last year, before bringing his total tally to 10 by scoring another four in the Malaysia Cup. This time around, Afiq is aiming to scale bigger heights.

"Last year I scored six goals with Kuala Lumpur and scored four with Kelantan. This year, I want to be better and hopefully I will be able to play a part in winning trophies with Selangor, especially since we have not won anything for the past two years.
