The Football Association of Johor [PBNJ] is organizing a tournament involving the two teams under its administration, Johor Darul Takzim and Johor United, from December 26 to 28.
The other two invitees to this pre-season tourney are Pahang FA and Singapore club Woodlands Wellington FC.
PBNJ had previously intended for it to be a six-team tournament but they were forced to make changes after Singapore clubs Home United and Singapore Armed Forced declined their invitations, according to Johor’s social media.
The first game will see Woodlands going up against the star-studded Darul Takzim side, which has promised to field a strong side as they look to make use of this competition to prepare for the upcoming Malaysian Super League campaign.
Darul Takzim has arguably the most expensive squad in Malaysia’s football history after they recently secured the signings of former Spanish international Dani Guiza and Italian midfielder Simone Del Nero,
Also joining the Southern Tigers revolution are Malaysian internationals Safee Sali, Safiq Rahim, Norshahrul Idlan, Azmi Muslim, Aidil Zafuan and Zaquan Adha, who were officially unveiled to the public on a press conference a week ago.
Although Woodlands ended their 2012 campaign at the wrong end of the table, they have beefed up their squad with the inclusion of former national goalkeeper Yazid Yasin and Albirex Niigata (S) midfield dynamo Atsushi Shimono.
The match between Johor Darul Takzim and Woodlands will be played at the Larkin Stadium in Johor Bahru at 8.45pm on December 26.
Tickets to the pre-season tournament are priced at RM5 and will be available on matchday.
