Irfan Bakti was a relieved man after Selangor finally got back to winning ways, but he was still critical over his players performance
“We were under pressure to win this game, having lost our previous two games against Negeri Sembilan and Perak”.
“But my players have to buck up their performance, apart from Gurusamy and Safiq Rahim the rest of the boys were not up to standards they should be in” he said.
“Our football tonight was played with caution, but I am happy with the win nonetheless. My players had the composure to see off the game after taking the lead, and we need to develop that discipline”.
Irfan also singled out praise for stand-in striker Azidan Sarudin who turned match winner with two goals.
“Azidan really did well in place of Amri Yahya. Amri was nursing a slight injury so I took a gamble by pushing Azidan upfront to partner Bosko and he took both goals extremely well”.
Irfan also reiterated Selangor’s mission in the Super League this season.
“Our aim is to get at least a third place finish in the league. I will use this one month break to rejuvenate my boys and hopefully we’ll come back stronger once the league resumes in June”.
