The big-spending southern outfit will no longer use their old name after approval was granted by the Sports Commissioner to rename the club
Johor FC will play in the Malaysian Super League (MSL) next season under the new name of Darul Takzim FC.
“We have accepted the application of Darul Takzim FC as they produced the required documents, including approval from the Sports Commissioner's Office (SCO) of the change of name last month,” FAM competitions committee chairman Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin told The New Straits Times yesterday.
The club side will be coached by Singapore legend Fandi Ahmad, assisted by former international Ismail Ibrahim.
Nicknamed the Southern Tigers, they are expected to challenge for honours in Malaysian football next year with the signings of top local and international talents.
The new MSL season is scheduled to kick-off on January 8, three days after the Charity Shield curtain-raiser between treble winners Kelantan and Malaysian Premier League (MPL) champions ATM.
