QPR eager for Anton Ferdinand not to snub Chelsea captain John Terry’s handshake - report

QPR are keen for defender Anton Ferdinand to shake hands with Chelsea captain John Terry when the two sides meet in the FA Cup this weekend, according to The Mirror.

The match at Loftus Road will be the first time the duo have crossed paths since Terry was charged for racially abusing the former Sunderland man during the Blues 1-0 defeat at Loftus Road in October.

Rangers want to alleviate any tension surrounding the fixture and are hopeful the game will not be marred by outside events, with Ferdinand being encouraged not to snub the England captain's handshake.

If the 26-year-old refused to bow down to his club's demand, however, it would not be the first time Terry has experienced such an incident, with Wayne Bridge famously opting not to accept the centre-back's hand in February 2010 following revelations over Terry's affair with an ex-girlfriend of the former Southampton man.

There will be extra police and stewards employed for the game and it is understood the FA will bring in their own “crowd spotters” to catch any potential troublesome behaviour.

Terry is set to appear for on trial at West London Magistrates in relation to the racism charge just four days after the clash at QPR, but manager Andre Villas-Boas insists there is “no temptation” to leave the 31-year-old out of the tie.
