Under-fire Hart 'upset' by Everton display, admits Zabaleta

Despite Manchester City securing a 3-1 victory the England goalkeeper produced another nervous performance, failing to keep out Romelu Lukaku's opener for the away side
Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta admits Joe Hart was "upset" after conceding a soft goal in the 3-1 win over Everton.

Hart has come under increased scrutiny following a series of uncertain displays for City this season and his position as No.1 for both club and country was thrown into doubt after a gaffe-strewn performance against Bayern Munich.

The 26-year-old was at fault for two of Bayern's three goals on Wednesday night and was partially to blame for the Toffees' opener at the Etihad Stadim on Saturday, and Zabaleta has revealed Hart was disappointed with himself for failing to keep out Romelu Lukaku's effort.

“I think he’s still upset about it,” the Argentine defender told reporters after the game. “Joe felt he could have got a stronger hand to it.

"But sometimes it’s really hard for any player when you’re not doing well.”

Despite an alarming loss of form at club level Hart is still expected to start for England in the World Cup qualifiers against Montenegro on Friday and Poland next Tuesday, with Zabaleta confident he will recover from his recent troubles.

“Most of the lads saw him a bit down in the week,” Zabaleta added. “That’s why it is important as team-mates to support all the players.

“He has to show his strong personality and that he’s coming back to his best. I’m sure he will as he is a great goalkeeper.”
