thumbnail Hello,

The 22-year-old was thought to be attracting interest from rival clubs following an impressive season at the DW Stadium, but the manager has hinted an exit could still happen

Wigan manager Owen Coyle has revealed no club has shown an interest in star midfielder James McCarthy.

Coyle insisted in June that he would not allow the 22-year-old to leave the DW Stadium "on the cheap", with the Republic of Ireland international thought to be attracting admirers following a fine season at the relegated club.

The new Wigan boss maintains McCarthy is no closer to leaving, but hinted an exit is possible if the club recieve a suitable offer.

"I've not had any inquiries, let alone offers, for any of my players," Coyle told Sky Sports.

"But ultimately good players attract attention and there's no getting away from it, James McCarthy is such a hugely talented player.

"And if there is any interest, he'll be the first to know. Then, as a club we decide what happens from there."
