Lambert warns Aston Villa must be ready for tough start

The Scot is looking forward to an opening day trip to the Emirates to take on Arsenal before a visit from Liverpool in a tricky opening to their new campaign

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has warned his young side they must be ready for their daunting start to the season.

Villa travel to Arsenal on the first day of the 2013-14 Premier League campaign and host Liverpool one week later but Lambert believes his new-look team will be ready for the challenge.

He told the Express and Star: "You have to be ready. We’ve got to go to Arsenal on the first day.

"That’s the thing, you go there and first day of the season everybody is expecting probably Arsenal to win.

"But we’ll certainly go down there and be ready for it. We played well down there last year. It was only the last five minutes that we conceded a goal."
