Reports have claimed that former Toffees boss David Moyes has failed in a bid to bring the left-back with him to Manchester United but that another offer could be incoming.

But Barkley believes that the club should do everything they can to keep the England international, whom he sees as a "role model", where he is.

"I've been following what is happening at Everton and I desperately want Leighton to stay," the 19-year-old told Sky Sports News.

"He's someone I look up to, a role model in how he conducts himself and the strides he has made in his career."

Baines was named in the PFA Team of the Year for 2012-13 after playing in all 38 Premier League games for Everton.
