New Wigan boss Owen Coyle has insisted “nobody has to leave on the cheap” as he looks to hold on to his best players and secure promotion straight back to the Premier League.
The Latics' best players have been linked with moves away from the club - with James McCarthy and Arouna Kone reportedly high on Everton boss Roberto Martinez’s wishlist.
However, Coyle has warned Martinez off any moves for his former players unless the Toffees and any other interested clubs are willing to spend big.
“Nobody has to leave on the cheap,” he told reporters. “If someone is leaving, it will be for the full value.
“Everybody has to understand that, whether it’s the buying club, the representatives or the player.
“Do I want to lose James McCarthy and Arouna Kone? Of course I don’t. If that interest comes to fruition and it’s backed up by hard cash, that’s something we would have to look at.”
