thumbnail Hello,

After seeing Roberto Martinez opt to leave for Everton, the Latics owner insists he will not stand in the way of any player wishing to do the same - for the right price

Dave Whelan admits he fully expects Wigan to lose some of their star players this summer after relegation to the Championship.

Manager Roberto Martinez has already signalled his intention to leave for Everton, and the Latics owner has revealed there is no deal in place to prevent the Spaniard bringing players with him.

On the contrary, Whelan fully expects some of his stars to seek Premier League football elsewhere, and insists he will hold no grudges if so.

"We have to face every single thing relegation presents us," Whelan told The Express.

"It is normally the case certain players want to play in the Premier League and I can't blame them for that.

"There is no agreement for Roberto not to sign our players. It is unfair and I don't believe in that. If Everton want to sign any of our players for the right money, we will consider it.

"Players sign contracts but sometimes one or two want to leave and it is difficult to stop them.

"Players are players and i believe in freedom in football.

"But we have a lot of people who are loyal to Wigan so we will just have to wait and see."
