Newcastle need wins in fight for survival, admits Tiote

Cheikh Tiote insists Newcastle must pick up three points when they face already-relegated QPR next Sunday.

The Magpies drew 0-0 with West Ham on Saturday but, after Wigan and Aston Villa picked up wins, fell to 16th place in the Premier League and now sit just three points above the relegation zone.

Tiote praised his side's teamwork and insisted the draw at Upton Park was a good result, but admits it is vital they secure the maximum three points when they travel to Loftus Road next weekend.

"We need to win," he told reporters. "Before the [West Ham] game we knew we had to win or take one point, but we could not lose. We have one point and that's important.

"Everyone was together and we played as a team. We were more compact and that's important. On Sunday we've got to do the same and hopefully we can take the three points."

"I think we deserved more than the one point because, when you see the game, I felt we wanted it more than West Ham.

"We missed some chances and we didn't score the goal we needed but we need to take the positives and think about the next game."

One of those positives, was the return of defender Fabricio Coloccini, who Tiote believes will be a key figure for their final two matches.

"I think it helped us because we know Coloccini's a good player with a lot of experience," he added.

"He played well and I'm happy to see him back because we're going to need him for the next two games."
