The competition returns for the fifth time at the Padang, with local Gunners supporters in for a treat as the former defender is set to featureSingaporeans, particularly Arsenal fans, are in for a treat this month as Gunners legend Nigel Winterburn will be in town to play in the Singapore Cricket Club (SCC) 5th Soccer Sixes, a premier 6-a-side tournament in Asia.
The 49-year-old Winterburn will be featuring for the MIO TV All-Star team, and will also be conducting a coaching clinic on the day before the tournament weekend.
There will be three categories in the contest: Open, Masters (Over 35) and Youth (Under 14). However, it is in the open category where Singapore Young Lions will expect to face tough competition from Asian opposition teams Yokohama (Japan), Hong Kong Football Club, Chonburi FC (Thailand) and Australian side, Newcastle Jets FC who are making their debut in this tournament.
Mr Owen Monaghan, Organising Chairman of the SCC Soccer 6s, believes that this tournament will benefit the participants holistically.
"Through this competition, we provide a viable platform to showcase the many talents of Asian football and its promising young players," he claimed.
"Such competitive exposure will certainly facilitate their personal development and maximize their potential."
The finals of the tournament will begin on May 19 at 4p.m., which is a Sunday. Spectators can expect to enjoy a family-friendly carnival atmosphere with prizes to be won. The event is open to the public and there is no charge for entry.
