After resisting a dominant Reds side last April to claim a surprise 1-0 win, before triumphing 3-0 at the Hawthorns earlier his term, the defender is confident of a third success
West Brom defender Gareth McAuley insists him and his team-mates can repeat their famous win over Liverpool from last season when they travel to Anfield on Monday night.
The Northern Ireland international was part of the Baggies defence that withstood 28 shots on goal by the Reds to hold on for a 1-0 win thanks to Peter Odemwingie’s strike 15 minutes from time.
And McAuley, who also played in the 3-0 win against Liverpool on the opening day of the current campaign, is confident his side can pull off a surprise victory once again.
He told the club’s official website: “It’ll be tough at Liverpool, but it’s a challenge that we have to step up to and relish. We turned them over on the opening day but it’s going to be a tough game at Anfield.
“Liverpool are looking good at the moment. We went there last year, were solid and did them on the counter-attack. We know it’s achievable on our day if we get everything right.”
