Everton defender Sylvain Distin has signed a one-year deal that will see him extend his stay at the Premier League club until 2014.

The 35-year-old has been a consistent performer for David Moyes since his move from Portsmouth in 2009, and has made 137 appearances for the Toffees in all competitions, scoring five goals.

He joins fellow defenders Phil Jagielka and Seamus Coleman in committing their futures to the Toffees, who have enjoyed a successful season so far as Moyes' men compete for a Champions League place.

Distin made his debut in England during the 2001-02 season, when he was sent on loan to Newcastle from parent club Paris Saint-Germain.

The Frenchman has made over 600 career appearances in all competitions, and his current deal ran out at the end of the season.
