Hughton dismisses rumours of Norwich bid for Celtic striker Hooper

The Canaries boss insists the club have not made an approach to sign the prolific Englishman, but has admitted he is in the market for "the right player" this January
Norwich boss Chris Hughton has dismissed rumours that the club have tabled an offer for Celtic striker Gary Hooper.

The 24 year-old has scored 53 goals in 80 Scottish Premier League games since joining the Parkhead outfit from Scunthorpe in 2010.

And, despite reports that the Canaries have taken an interest in the Englishman, Hughton insists there is no bid in the offing.

“No, that is not correct,” replied Hughton, speaking to the Scotsman.

11/1 Norwich are 11/1 with bet365 to win away at Liverpool
“We are looking for players to strengthen what we have already got. We have never stated or quoted that we are looking at strikers.

“If we can improve the squad we will look to do it. There are always players that we going to be linked with.

“That is normal. That is the same for every club. One thing we are adamant about is anyone we bring in has got to really add to the quality we have.

“Certainly if something happens it will be because it is right for us. Would I like to add to the squad? Yes, I would. But only if it is the right player.

“I wouldn’t just bring somebody in just for the sake of a couple of names. They would have to be able to get into the team.”
