After their 3-1 victory over London rivals West Ham, the Portuguese manager has expressed his happiness at his side ending a run that saw them lose three in a row in the league

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has spoken of his delight that his side have returned to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over West Ham after losing three in a row in the Premier League.

Spurs' win White Hart Lane came courtesy to two goals from Jermain Defoe and another from Gareth Bale, and the Portuguese boss is happy they managed to earn three points after a difficult run.

"We've been waiting for a good solid 90-minute performance and we got it today," Villas-Boas told reporters.

"It was extremely important for us to get back to winning ways, particularly in a London derby. We don't jump too far in the table but it was an important result."

Villas-Boas also praised the impact of captain Michael Dawson, who made his first start in the Premier League this season after struggling with a number of injury problems.

He added: "[Dawson] hasn't been playing as much as he wanted because the competition is extremely difficult. He has great commitment and desire for the club.

"Today we felt the option should drop for him because he's been doing extremely well in training and it was a game that suited his qualities."
