The 27-year-old centre-back has hailed the Uruguayan forward's exceptional form in front of goal, while also stating that he believes the club can finish in the top four

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel believes the form of team-mate Luis Suarez must be giving opposition defenders "nightmares".

The 25-year-old striker has been lethal in front of goal so far this season, with his double against Wigan on Saturday taking his tally up to 10 goals in 12 Premier League appearances.

And Skrtel has backed Suarez to continue his current form and lead Liverpool back towards the top of the league table.

"I face him every day in training so I know how hard it is to mark Suarez,” Skrtel is quoted as saying by ESPN.

"The goal he scored against Newcastle recently was one of the best goals I’ve ever seen. He really showed his skills and his quality.

"I'm glad Luis is in our team and at this moment he’s the best striker in the Premier League.

"He’s playing well and scoring goals. Every defender in the Premier League must have nightmares about him.

"That’s good for us and we hope he can carry on like this. He can help us to get to where we want to be."

TOP FOUR REDS?

When it comes to his own form, though, Skrtel was less gushing, stating that he has started the season slowly with a number of costly errors.

But, with the side currently enjoying a seven-match unbeaten run, the centre-back is tipping Liverpool to make a push for a top four place.

He added: "The start of the season wasn’t the best for me as I made a few mistakes, but I’ve tried to learn from that and in every game I try to do my best.

"With a new manager, we needed to learn the new tactical ideas. Now we’ve been together four months performances and results are better.

"We are seven games unbeaten in the league and we are doing really well. We need to carry on in this way

"There isn’t a big gap between where we are now and where we want to be which is the top four. We will continue to work hard and we believe we can be in the top four."
