thumbnail Hello,

Both managers of the respective clubs top most bookmakers 'sack lists' but the Saints boss is determined to prove them all wrong ahead of one of the biggest matches of his career

Southampton manager Nigel Adkins has jokingly brushed aside any notion of the game against QPR this Saturday being dubbed 'El Sackico".

Saints and Rangers make up the bottom two in the Premier League and are already adrift of 17th-placed Aston Villa.

Both Adkins and Hughes are under immense pressure as neither have so far acquired the results to match significant summer investment in their squads.

11/10 Nigel Adkins is 11/10 with Paddy Power to be the first Premier League manager to leave his post
After being informed about the branding of the game, he told reporters: "It’s a good one that. It tickled me. I don’t feel under pressure. It’s the next game in the journey that we’re on. Every game that you look at has three points up for grabs.

"That’s what we’ve got to go and do. We’ve already established that we’re at the wrong end of the league table. We can’t hide away from that and so the importance of the next game is always going to be highlighted.

"But it is going to be like that for us for the remainder of the campaign. It’s a tough league that we’re in, we’re well aware of that, but one we love being in and one we expect to be in for many, many years to come."

Adkins feels his first season in charge in the Premier League could have started a lot better, but insists his side's efforts have not been helped by the decisions of referees.

He added: "We’ve had a good home win, a couple of draws that could have been wins.

"At the weekend a referee decision going our way could have changed things around, against West Brom a referee decision going our way may have changed things around, against Man City on the first game of the season we should have had a penalty that wasn’t given.

"When it was analysed after by the assessors, it should have been a penalty. So quite a few referee decisions have gone against us, but that will change."
