thumbnail Hello,

After picking up numerous injuries during the start of the season, the Red Devils boss is boosted by news that one England international is fit with Chris Smalling also progressing

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed Ashley Young is fit again and could face Stoke on Saturday, however Chris Smalling is not yet ready to make his comeback.

Young has been out of action with a knee injury suffered in September but is now ready to be considered for a first-team place, something Sir Alex is more than happy with.

Speaking to reporters, Ferguson said: "Very few players can cross as well as he can and his goalscoring ratio is very good."

The 70-year-old is also happy with Smalling's progress as he recovers from a broken metatarsal he suffered in the summer.

The England defender is nearing a return and will help out a Manchester United defence which has been severely stretched this season with Jonny Evans, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic all having struggled with injuires.

The United manager also revealed he was pleased to see his players return from international duty unscathed, adding: "[It's] always a time when you're a bit concerned but we've been lucky this time".
