After Channel 5 documentary 'Being: Liverpool' offered an insight into the Ulsterman's methods, the Spain goalkeeper has commended his manager's unique techniques

Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has given Brendan Rodgers his full backing after the new manager’s techniques were revealed in behind-the-scenes television documentary 'Being: Liverpool'.

Following his arrival at the club in the summer, the Northern Irishman told his players he had written the names of three of players and in sealed envelopes, with those chosen his predication of who would let him down during the season.

The method has drawn criticism from certain quarters, but Reina, who hasn't enjoyed the best of starts to the campaign, has praised the motivation method.

"It was a motivational speech designed to make sure we were focused and tuned in all year," Reina revealed on Spanish radio station Onda Cero.

"I never feared being in the envelope. No one can ever put my name in an envelope because of a lack of attitude or commitment.

"It's the first time I have seen a manager do that and, personally, I liked it. It stands out. It was a speech designed to motivate."

Whilst Reina and his team-mates are getting to grips with the new regime, the Spain man recognises the need for results to improve, and quickly.

"We are trying to impose a new style with a new manager and that takes time," Reina added. "There are mistakes at times because it's not easy, but I prefer to make mistakes trying to do what the manager wants and trying to do the right thing.

"We're optimistic that sooner or later we'll be fighting near the top of the league again."
