The 22-year-old acknowledged the competition that he faces for a place in the national team but was pleased with his own display in the 2-2 draw against Swansea City on SaturdayReading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy hopes that his run of games in the Premier League can help him secure a place in the England squad in the future.
McCarthy has started the Royals' last four Premier League matches following Adam Federici's mixed form at the beginning of the campaign and impressed as they drew 2-2 against Swansea City on Saturday.

"Obviously there are a lot of good English keepers out there," McCarthy told reporters. "Joe Hart is an unbelievable keeper and he's been doing it for years.
"I will just keep doing my thing and see what happens. Hopefully I will get there one day."
Reading allowed a two-goal lead to slip against Michael Laudrup's team but could have lost the game if not for McCarthy's saves as the Swans took control.
The former Ipswich Town loanee was satisfied with his own display but continues to search for his first victory in the Premier League.
"It was disappointing not to win, but I was pleased with the way things went for me," he commented.
