Wenger praises Malaysian players after close-fought friendly

The Arsenal tactician left Kuala Lumpur impressed by the fast-paced performance of the Malaysian football players during their spirited 2-1 defeat to his side

After his team managed a 2-1 victory at the National Stadium Bukit Jalil, Arsenal supremo Arsene Wenger heaped praise on Malaysian players for their fast-paced display.

The Gunners struggled against a spirited Malaysia XI side that nearly caused an upset before Thomas Eisfeld and Chuks Aneke scored in a 5 minute salvo.

“It was a good workout with a good Malaysian team. My friend (K.Rajagobal) did well with his team," Wenger told reporters in last night's post-match press conference.

He also took his time to single out Malaysian skipper Safiq Rahim, combative midfielder Garry Robbat, nippy winger S.Kunalan, and goalkeeper Farizal Marlias for their impressive performances.

“I was impressed by number 8 [Rahim], number 15 [Robbat] when he came on, number 16 (S.Kunalan) on the left hand side and their goalkeeper were absolutely fantastic,” he continued.

His words will surely appease the Malaysian football fans, whose national football players were being recognized by one of the most respected figures in world football.
