The Latics chairman has guaranteed the Spaniard funds for transfers over the summer after the 38-year-old opted against taking over the vacant hotseat at Anfield

Wigan owner Dave Whelan has insisted Roberto Martinez is fully committed to the club after he opted against taking over the vacant Liverpool manager’s job.

The Spaniard had long been linked with a switch to Anfield following Kenny Dalglish’s sacking, with the Reds' American owners, FSG, impressed by the 38-year-old after he steered the Latics to Premier League safety for the second-year running last season.

However, as exclusively revealed by Goal.com, the Spaniard rejected Liverpool’s advances due to the new management structure the club plan to implement, with Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers now set for the job.

Despite the speculation surrounding Martinez in recent weeks, including over a potential switch to Aston Villa, Whelan is confident his manager is now fully focused on Wigan.

"There will be no adjustment to his current deal," Whelan told Sky Sports News.

"He moves into second year of the deal previously agreed."

The 75-year-old also promised to back the Spaniard in the transfer window, with "three or more players" due to arrive at the DW Stadium.
