Each of the hosts' three strikers scored in the 3-0 victory over Rovers on Saturday to take Roberto Mancini's side five points clear at the top of the Premier LeagueManchester City assistant coach David Platt hailed the impact of the club’s strikers after Mario Balotelli, Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko each scored in the 3-0 win over Blackburn on Saturday.
City’s top three scorers were all on target at the Etihad Stadium as Roberto Mancini’s side moved five points clear of rivals Manchester United at the top of the Premier League table.
“All three strikers have scored all season,” said Platt after the game.
“They have got 30 to 40 goals between them. They are taking their chances and the team is creating them for them.”
City dominated possession throughout the match and completely controlled the tempo of the game as they cruised to victory against a toothless Blackburn side that registered just one shot on target.
Platt was delighted with City’s performance but insisted the results are now more important, with the club 12 games from winning a first top flight title since 1968.
“There is a belief we can go into football matches and win games,” he added. “That’s what we have done for two-thirds of the season and it has got us where we are.
“I don’t think you can go 38 games sweeping teams apart and you have to grind out results.
“There are games that you have to grind out and others you can control like we did here. The last dozen games will be a mixture of those types of games and the main thing is we need to get the results.
“In terms of the possession we had, we controlled the game. We knew we had to get off to a good start in terms of rhythm and taking the game to them.
“We created chances and you felt as though the goal was coming. It doesn’t half help when you get the first goal in the first half because it helps to open the game up.”
