The 29-year-old French centre-back lauded the Arsenal legend as "a fabulous player" after the Serie A club romped to a 4-0 victory over the Gunners at San Siro
The 34-year-old striker made a sensational return to Arsenal on loan in this years' January transfer window, scoring 2 goals in 4 appearances, but now returns to parent club New York Red Bulls after the Champions League defeat.
And it seems that whilst Henry re-ignited his cult status among Arsenal fans, he also had an impact on his former France team-mate Mexes too.
Mexes said: "We've all paid the best compliments possible. I was the first to congratulate him. He is an example for everyone. He is an idol for Arsenal.
"He had to have the courage to come back and make his contribution to Arsenal. He is a fabulous player."
Mexes also acknowledged Henry's relationship with the club and sympathised with him after his return to the US
He continued: "It's a little sad for his exit. I don't think he'll regret what has happened. The fans, his Arsenal team-mates and his coach can congratulate him. It's magical."
