The Belgium defender and club captain is currently contracted with the Premier League champions until 2017, with Goal exclusively revealing he is close to signing a two-year extension.

"I've been close a few times to signing for [Barcelona], there was contact," he told Mundo Deportivo.
"But in recent times, I can officially assure you there has not been anything that I know of."
City's hierarchy see Kompany as a possible future executive at the end of his playing days, and the 28-year-old has revealed he has no intention of departing the Etihad Stadium and the "attractive" project at the club.
"I have a current contract with Manchester City, I am very comfortable," he said
"We have won the Premier League, we have a serious and attractive project. It is not in my plans to leave the team."
