Arsene Wenger is set to meet the striker's agent, Mino Raiola, on Saturday to discuss a £25 million deal for the Italy international - but should the club be looking elsewhere?
Arsene Wenger has identified Mario Balotelli as Arsenal's marquee signing this summer, with talks over a possible £25 million set to get underway on Saturday.
The Gunners missed out on both Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain 12 months ago, leaving Olivier Giroud as the club's sole recognised centre-forward.
Higuain went on to score 24 goals in a successful first season at Napoli, while Luis Suarez hit 31 in the Premier League alone before being named both the PFA and PWA Footballer of the Year.
Balotelli is familiar with English football following two-and-a-half seasons with Manchester City, but is largely remembered for a series of off-the-field antics despite a respectable return of 30 goals in 80 appearances.
But is the Italian the right man for Arsenal? His form was erratic at the Etihad Stadium and has seen little improvement, even at his boyhood club.
Would Balotelli's unpredictable character disrupt the Gunners or can Wenger tame the 23-year-old? Can the Italy international lead the line at the Emirates or should the club look elsewhere?
