Mahlangu lost his place in Gordon Igesund's team last year after tearing his Achilles tendon, and he later left Helsingborg as he started looking for greener pastures
Mahlangu has been without a club since leaving IF Helsingborg at the end of last year, and despite reports linking him to Kaizer Chiefs, the 24-year-old player's desire was always to return to Europe.
"We have tied up one of the Allsvenskan's best players, which obviously feels really good. Mahlangu is a very good passer and very skillful game. The agreement is for 2014, but neither party closes the doors for an extension," Mild was quoted on the club's website.
The Mpumalanga-born player expressed his delight at finally securing a move back to Europe, and he is confident that playing for Goteborg will bring the best out of him.
"A very strong team, which is also going to play in Europe this summer. After my years in Sweden, I know it is a big club with a great atmosphere at their Stadium and I am confident that my choice is the best for my future development," said Mahlangu after his unveiling on Tuesday.
Mahlangu won the Swedish Premier League title with Helsingborg back in 2011, and he was later named the best player in the league for his outstanding performances.
