Fiorentina rule out 'impossible' Jovetic deal in January

Following Giuseppe Rossi's ligament damage to the same knee that kept him sidelined for two years, the Manchester City forward has been linked with a return to his former side
Fiorentina co-owner Andrea Della Valle has ruled out a move for Manchester City striker Stevan Jovetic in the January transfer window.

The Florence-based club are still reeling after the knee injury suffered by star striker Giuseppe Rossi, who sprained ligaments in his right knee in Sunday's 1-0 win over Livorno.

Jovetic moved to City from Fiorentina in the summer but has struggled for first-team football behind the likes of Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko - making just three Premier League appearances this term.

"If there is not the quality there [in January], then it is useless to act," Della Valle told reporters.

"Let us hope that Rossi's injury does not limit our chances this season.

"Jovetic and [former Fiorentina striker Adrian] Mutu? We remain friendly with them, but they are difficult. 'JoJo' is impossible, the regret is there.

"The anger is still so much for the injury to Rossi."
