Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart arrived in South Africa a day ago, revealing that the Bafana captain requested a trial with themStuttgart executive Fredi Bobic spoke about Kaizer Chiefs' keeper Khune’s hopes to move to a European club.
“We got a request from Khune's agent whether he can come and join us for trials. Currently he is with the national team, so it might be difficult to find the time now," Bobic told the media in Cape Town.
"I heard he is a good goalkeeper and it should be interesting to compare him to our keepers.”
Stuttgart will play friendlies against Vasco da Gama on Thursday, Dutch side PEC Zwolle on Saturday and Ajax Cape Town on Tuesday, 14 January.
“We are keen to introduce him to our goalkeeper training and would welcome him for trials, but it’s on him now whether he can find the right time. We will try to watch him on Saturday if we have time to make it to the stadium. Otherwise we will watch on the television," said Bobic.
Contrary to Stuttgart's claim, Khune moved swiftly to deny the trial and that he is focussed on South Africa's Chan campaign. This may rule out the trial, but Khune's desire to impress Stuttgart should be ongoing.
@IIKHUNE_32_16: Don't believe the hype. My only focus is on @Bafana_Bafana1 & doing all we can to win the tournament. I have NO training outside of Bafana! - Khune tweeted on Wednesday night.
