thumbnail Hello,

Mphela has agreed to a three-year deal with Chiefs which will begin in July 2014, but Killer could be moving to Naturena sooner than that if Sundowns agree to sell now

Kaizer Chiefs are close to winning the race to sign Mamelodi Sundowns striker Katlego Mphela now. He's already signed a pre-contract with Chiefs, but the AmaKhosi would want to use his services for the Caf Champions League sooner.

Mphela has agreed to join AmaKhosi now, but it is up to his current club, Sundowns, to decide whether to let him go at the end of the season only.

'Killer', as Mphela is affectionately known in the football fraternity, made his intentions very clear that he wants out of Sundowns when his contract expires in June this year.

And despite a number of overseas-based clubs interested in his services, the 29-year-old has decided to remain in the PSL to boost his chances of returning to the national team.

Mphela is seen as a replacement for want-away Lehlohonolo Majoro who has recently snubbed a move to SuperSport United, as he's thought to be holding on for a move to Pirates.

Mphela is expected to play a major role as Chiefs will look to conquer Africa starting from next month, but everything else rests upon the Sundowns' management.

AmaKhosi were initially interested in acquiring Edward Manqele, but Sundowns took time to respond to their proposal, so Chiefs quickly switched focus to 'Killer'.
