The defending champions have signed the Costa Rican striker who shall join the club in January…
Cristian Lagos is the latest to Churchill Brothers in order to spark their revival in the I-League where they are placed at the bottom of the table.
The 29-year old, who is contracted to Deportivo Saprissa in Costa Rica, has signed a contract until the end of the season and is likely to replace Syrian striker Yaser Shahen.
“I'm happy and grateful to Saprissa because I was provided all the facilities to join this important Indian team. I am excited about this new challenge and the offer I was presented.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank all the Saprissa fans who always showed me their love and support. This is a unique opportunity for myself and my family that I could not pass. I hope to do well and worthily represent the country abroad,” Lagos was quoted saying.
Churchill have scored the least number of goals in the league, only 12 from their 13 matches. The club would hope that his addition along with Trinidad and Tobago midfielder Anthony Wolfe shall see them climb up the standings and avoid relegation.
“The deal has been agreed upon. Lagos is a fantastic professional and we are sure that he will play a key role for Churchill Brothers next year,” said Lagos’ agent Anuj Kichlu of Football Edge.
"He had offers from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Thailand but the incentive to play the AFC Cup lured Lagos to Churchill Brothers. He has been selected for three World Cup qualifiers in the run up to Costa Rica qualifying for the World Cup. He wwill bring quality to the league which should prove good."
